The first flash mob reportedly took place in 2003 at a Macy’s department store at the behest of Harper’s Magazine senior editor Bill Wasik. For the 10 years following, the Web has fallen victim to millions of flash mob videos depicting folks riding the subway sans pants en masse (via Improv Everywhere), massive pillow fights and scads and scads and scads of saccharine sweet marriage proposals. A decade later, let us all vow to execute one, final synchronous action: Saying bye-bye to flash mobs. Feel free to pass it on.
